In February, Disney announced that Earl Of Sandwich would open its first shop in California at the Disneyland Resort inside Downtown Disney. This will be Disney’s third Earl Of Sandwich shop inside one of its resorts. The first in the franchise was opened in 2004 at the Walt Disney World Resort and since then, have open almost 20 location including Disneyland Paris.
Known for their famed hot sandwiches, the restaurant franchise was started by Planet Hollywood founder Robert Earl, and Orlando Montagu. The current Earl Of Sandwich and direct descendant of the 4th Earl Of Sandwich, John Montagu who popularized the sandwich
The new Downtown Disney Anaheim location is set to open on November 2nd right next door to the AMC theater, but with the power of social media, Earl Of Sandwich announced through there Twitter feed that they would have a soft opening beginning October 29th. Later, also tweeted that during the soft opening, (Oct. 29 – Nov. 1) that they will offer a 25% discount on all orders, an incentive to good to pass up. Since they opened the doors, they have been met with long lines of eager locals and pass-holders waiting for something new in California including myself. One can only get enough of Subway and Quizno’s.
What sets Earl Of Sandwich apart from other sandwich shops is their in-house sliced deli meats and fresh artisan bread that bakes as your sandwich cooks in there oven. They feature 16 Signature Hot Sandwiches that include the Buffalo Chicken, the All American, the Earl's Club, the World Famous Original 1762, and for a limited time, the Holiday Turkey Sandwich that is highly recommended by Kristen and Aljon. What caught my eye was the Hawaiian BBQ. So I ordered not only that, but the Holiday. Luckly I had friends that I shared with. They ordered the Chipotle Chicken Avocado, and the Tuna Melt. And for $6.99 a sandwich, you definitely get you moneys worth when it comes to taste and quality.
Once you order your sandwich, you can chose to add all sorts of sides and goodies as you work your way down the food line while watching the employees make your sandwich. You can have a freshly tossed salad made to order or have it wrap style.
There are plenty of sides to select from like Pasta Salad, Coleslaw, Potato Salad, and 4 flavors of Earl Of Sandwich chips. Plus lighter sides like a fruit cup, yogurt with granola and fruit, and Jello. They also offer bottle and fountain drinks. Even alcohol but was not available during the soft opening.
As you pay for you items, a huge portrait of John Montagu towers over the cashiers
There is plenty of seating in the outdoor patio directly in front of the restaurant. Before the grand opening, a canopy will be added with above heaters. Inside though, not so big. Maybe enough to fit 20 people.
Earl Of Sandwich even has you covered for breakfast with sandwiches made with fresh cracked eggs on an artisan baked mini loaf. A Just 4 Kids menu is also available.
As for the sandwiches themselves................Best Hot Sandwich I ever had. Thank you Kristen and Aljon for recommending the Holiday Turkey. It was Thanksgiving in every bite and we all agreed that it was our favorite.
Since it was a soft opening a lot of desserts and soups were either out of or unavailable. I actually ordered and paid for the chicken tortilla soup but when I got my sandwich they ran out. FAIL! So except and update in the up and coming weeks.
This is going to be a great addition to Downtown Disney. Plus I love the fact that I can take the Monorail from inside Disneyland and get dropped off right near Earl Of Sandwich and take a few inside the park.
You can follow Earl Of Sandwich on Twitter @EarlOfSandwich and Facebook. Also to there website for there full menu and locations.
