Want better food in your schools? Sign Jamie Oliver's petition! He's looking to get healthy food in school, along with programs that keep cooking skills alive in America. He is wanting to show our President how many people do care about the health of their children and others children. I have no children, at least not yet. However, I feel it is very important for children to understand the importance of eating healthy and learn to cook. I have so many friends that have no idea how to cook anything that doesn't come from a box including my husband, who is learning to cook.
I think it's very important that we start teaching our children how to live healthy. Too many people in this country are overweight. Here are some stats from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention:
Percent of noninstitutionalized adults age 20 years and over who are overweight or obese: 67% (2005-2006)
Percent of noninstitutionalized adults age 20 years and over who are obese: 34% (2005-2006) Percent of adolescents age 12-19 years who are overweight: 18% (2005-2006)
Percent of children age 6-11 years who are overweight: 15% (2005-2006)
Percent of children age 2-5 years who are overweight: 11% (2005-2006)
Those are some serious numbers. Being overweight means you are more likely to have other health problems like high blood pressure, diabetes and more. Those can all lead to other problems like kidney failure, stroke, heart attacks and more.
Let's start helping our children learn to eat right and healthy so they don't have to develop these health problems and can live a long healthy life. It all starts with parents teaching their children to eat right at home and eating right at school. So sign Jamie Oliver's petition for a Food Revolution.
